I was thinking of taking my first cruise. Anyone know of any great destinations or cruise lines?
I don’t want a basic trip to Mexico, a family Disney cruise or any cruises that stop anywhere in the US. Any suggestions?
I have been on seven cruises and have found Princess and Celebrity to be the best cruise lines. They offer a wide variety of activites and excursions, high-tea in the afternoon is lovely, amazing food and restaurants, great staff, friendly cruisers, not too expensive, luxurious spas, comfy staterooms, and no rowdy customers.
I do not suggest chosing Carnival, as they are the complete opposite of what I have just described.
As for not stopping in the US, there are many options around the world for each cruise line. There are Alaskan cruises (offered only in the spring/summer for obvious reasons), European cruises, Scandanavian, and Mediterranean.
A great option is a Trans-atlantic cruise! These cruises are offered once a year, often in the spring, when the cruise companies want to move their ships to Europe to begin the European Cruise season. They often offer great prices, and often stop in Bermuda and end in places such as England, France, Denmark or Portugal.

i loved the cruise to Alaska by Royal Carribean. i never would have chosen to go to Alaska by myself but it ended up being a rare and wonderful trip! Royal Carribean is classier than Carnival but not as expensive as Princess. I recommend that cruise and cruise line 160%

I have two good ones for you which I took the past couple years. First, if you like historic things you want to do a Mediterranean cruise. You’ll go places where you can see the Vatican City and the Colosseum in Rome, Italy, Pompeii in Naples Italy, the Leaning Tower of Pisa in Pisa, and if you take a longer cruise of 12 days or more the Acropolis in Athens and the Biblical city of Ephesus in Turkey. Then you can also see the Greek isles of Santorini and Mykonos. We did this cruise on the Royal Caribbean ship, Brilliance of the Seas. Its a fabulous ship and my all time favorite.
Another option for the Mediterranean is a Western Med cruise which goes to Porutgal, Gibralter, the Canary Islands and Morocco. We just did the latter this past October on a NCL ship. The fall is a great time to do a Med cruise.
The other very different cruise is to the Baltic countries. We did a Celebrity cruise (on the Constellation) to the Baltic and saw Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Poland, Germany, Russia, Finland, and Eastonia. It was a 14 day cruise and we loved it. We did this cruise in May but the weather was nice and it was not cold although we were really far north. A light jacket was sufficient most days.
One other itinerary that’s different is the New England Canada cruise. While it stops in Maine, and Mass, it also has stops in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. And there are some other cruises that go from NY or Boston all the way to Montreal; those are generally one way and last 9 to 12 days. We did this one on the Royal Caribbeans Jewel of The Seas, another great ship.

I loved the panama canal. It started in Florida and ended in San Diego. Even though it starts and ends in the U.S., and you do see some of Mexico, you also see Costa Rica, panama, and the Caribbean, plus going through the canal is fantastic. Going on an Alaskan cruise was my favorite(yes I know it’s in the U.S.) My third favorite was the Mediterranean.So much to see and very safe too. Oh I love Princess cruise lines, because they are so classy and you will love the pampering.
