Cruise tips……??!!?

Im going on a cruise in a few weeks and im wondering if anyone as any tips about what not to eat and what to avoid.. I dont want to put any weight on when we come back..
Any ideas..?

I have been on a few cruises and have eaten my fair share (heck, the cruise is costing me enough, might as well get my value where I can.) But I have found that if you are someone who truly wants to experience the ship and as much as you can do on board, you will find that you walk enough to burn calories a lot faster than you may do in your everyday life.
A few things I have noticed is I take the stairs more often on board to go between decks rather than the elevator. I get there almost as fast since the elevators have such high demand anyways and it gets me a minor workout. Also, most ships have rock climbing walls and tons of pools. Depending on your ship, may have have other fun water activities like the FlowRider on Royal Caribbean or the water slide on Carnival or Disney.
My advice, count experiences, not calories.

I ate escargot on a cruise (loved them) and found out about 30 minutes later I was highly allergic. The doc said escargot and caviar are the two main culprits for allergic reactions on cruise ships… So I always advise to avoid those unless you know for sure you aren’t allergic.

The food is generally good on all cruises. Just watch yourself when you eat because it can be very addicting, haha. If you’re going to, say Mexico, don’t drink the water because it’ll make you sick. The food off the boat is probably the most you want to be careful with.

I sail quite often on cruise ships, and have never had a problem with food upset at all from anything on the ships. (With very few exceptions, I don’t eat on shore, where it is possible to have a very big problem sometimes! NEVER eat "street food", which has the most problems. If you are thirsty, buy a soft drink in a can. St. Bart’s, the ABC islands, and St. Thomas are fine, though.) As for gaining weight, remember that you don’t have to eat everything in sight, but don’t worry about it. If you will wear a pedometer for the first couple of days on board, you will find that even without trying to walk a certain number of times around the deck that you will probably be walking between 3 and 5 miles every day!

Food on cruises are amazing. Just be careful of what you eat when you visit the places. Like chicken and if you are in a sketchy place the food could make you sick.

Most cruises offer excellent foods and there are many choices. I’ve never had any problems eating fresh fruit and salads on cruises. It’s more about restricting yourself as much of the food looks really good…

I’ve just been on the Queen Mary 2 and at each meal the spa / gym selection on the menu was calorie counted so if you were strong willed you could stick to about 1500 Kcals per day. Steer clear of the afternoon tea!!! Far too many yummy cakes and scones.

I had the same concerns before I took a cruise. There are lots of choices available for meals – you just need to have the will-power to choose the healthier items and avoid eating too much. I would also suggest taking advantage of opportunities to get lots of excercise – take the stairs instead of elevators, walk around the deck, use the gym and other athletic things that are available and walk a lot on your shore excursions. Whatever you do, however careful you are not to indulge you are going to put on 5-8lbs! The food is so good you can’t resist! Enjoy yourself – suffer the pain of getting it off when you get back- you are on holiday after all!

I have never had a bad experience with food on a cruise ship. However be careful of the seafood and the salad. Make sure the food you eat is piping hot and only drink bottled water instead of the tap water. Try a variety of food (you are on holiday!) and if you feel that guilty you can always visit the ships gym!

On the cruises I’ve been on, with P&O, Celebrity and Royal Caribbean, the food on the ships has always been excellent and very varied. You just need plenty of willpower not to eat too much. We’ve never had any problems with food eaten on-shore either, but it’s often a good idea to avoid salads in case they haven’t been properly washed. We usually look for places away from town centres as they’re often cheaper and have more local food, but we look for busy places as the food is not likely to have been hanging around for long and the locals probably know the good places to go.

Be careful of cold foods, sadly including salads. When eating hot food, make sure it really starts off hot. It’s better to focus on avoiding upset stomachs, then weight control takes care of itself.
